Artist's Comments

Christmas '06
Belton, Texas
57 degrees Fahrenheit

marzipan on the left, chocolate on the right
brie cheese and summer sausage in the background

Would've been a beautiful composition if not for the "decorative" spire in the middle of that plate. But it's what's on the plate that matters. Ever since my family moved back to the U.S.A. from Germany we've never forgotten the European food. We take things for granted until we don't have them any more. Every Christmas my mother turns into a one-woman bakery and cranks out more holiday manifestations of sugar than should be legal. This photograph is tribute to her hard work.

As always (and I'm not kidding) I encourage comments and critique, though they may be scathing, malicious, and/or spiteful in nature. And calibrate your monitor.

Canon 20D, Canon 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM

note: I upload these photos in .PNG format for its lossless compression. It does seem to loose some color accuracy and saturation, however, and tends to eliminate some of the magenta/red from the image. If I'm not the only one who notices this and you forgive my inexperienced managing of color (take a look at my gallery for an explanation of that) then write a comment and tell me so. But if I'm another raving perfectionist then feel free to tell me so as well.

edit: No it is indeed the website. The .PNG file on my computer shows no variation in color. Only the uploaded file does. So shall I suffer in silence.

Firstly, a, b -and- c, your mum is freaking awesome!
If only I could come up with deliciousness like that.. gosh.

Secondly, I think that this is a very, very nice shot, and well composed.
I like the DOF, how it, I'm not sure how to say it, but coincides with the ornament in the middle. I also like the askew divide of the sweets, it make for an interesting focal direction.

Great job.. I bet Chrissy was awesome.

Thank you! Yeah my mom tries really hard and I don't think she gets enough recognition so I made this picture :) Thank you very much for following my work. I greatly appreciate your words.

You're very welcome. :) ( I was going to say something witty here, but it's to early in the morning to think of something :P)
